greetings to dance explorers

Hmm,
Just found this tribe of local deep dance divers. Wanted to share that I've been experiementing with Sacred Dance as Mindfulness Practice for over 8 years now. While I started out as a definitive Alternative Tribal Style Belly Dance school - I'm the founder and director of Heavy Hips Tribal Belly Danc,. our circles of dance and my teaching have gone deeper and deeper into exploring the movement of undulations, spirals, circles and figure 8's in the body whole as movement which heals, opens, empowers and grounds each one of us into our service as humans in partnership with Earth to create peace, sustainability and love and compassionate wakefulness. It has been an incredible journey for me as a teacher, a dancer, a woman and a human being and all the hundreds of women who have danced and journeyed and explored with me.

You can check out my writings and our energy at http://www.heavyhipsl.net
And soon I will be offering women's and men's and couples movement/dance process groups using voice and movement to heal and discover and grow - I hope some of you will join me.
blessings,
palika

Original music for local choreographers available

I just wanted to say hi and to let the local choreography community know that
I have been deeply involved with modern dance, traditional ethnic dance and experimental dance and performance art as a collaborator for many many years.
My 2001 CD, Loop.pooL had 9 modern dance commissions on it and I have composed works and/or worked live with Dr. Shaeffer and Mr. Stern, Sarah Wilbourne, Tandy Beal and many others.

If anyone is looking for electronic music or found and invented sound pieces
of is interested in commissioning me to compose a special work, I can work in
most genres and already have a plethora of compositions that would be appropriate for new or experiemental works, whether really inside or really
'outside' of the box.

You can hear examples at www.looppool.info
and if you are serious about using music I can make copies of my recent CDs (I have four out in the last four years) for you individually.

Contact me off this list at rickwalker@looppool.info if you are intereted by this prospect.

Stay creative and produce a lot of work everyone!!!!!

yours, Rick Walker aka l()()p.p()()l aka Purple Hand aka nO thIng

More dancing in Santa Cruz

I just posted about a piece I'm in in SF. That reminds me that I have found very little to do in terms of post-modern dance in Santa Cruz. After I'm done with this piece I'm open to collaborating and exchanging skills with others in town. I'm also thinking about starting up a contact class here, probably in the fall to draw students from UCSC.

Sacrifice dance theater

Maybe you went to Raindance and saw us perform our work in progress of one of our pieces (involving fire and blood, you would remember it)?

So, I'm in a political dance piece this weekend about 911 and the war in Iraq. It incorporates elements of contact improv, fire dancing, butoh, cheerleading (this was by far the hardest part for me to do), theater, and spoken word. It's melodramatic, and meaningful, fast, slow, sexy, disgusting, and anything else you can think of. Come and see.
We live in interesting times: a euphemism for the inevitable geopolitical and environmental upheaval we face as a global society. As an artist, I can not ignore the reality we face, and simultaneously, hope to offer an alternative to the lies, deception, and corruption that control our very lives.

Please join us for "Sacrifice," a dance piece incorporating elements of contact improv, fire spinning, butoh, theater, and spoken word.

After disappearing into babyland for the last year or so, I'm ready to reemerge. I've had a baby and have been since consumed entirely with the joy and work of caring for my 2 children. I now feel I'm ready to be a "person" again. I'm looking for interesting dance classes to take and dance companies to watch. Please share upcoming performances as well as classes that you think are worth while.

hello all
i know we are all consumed in/by our lives...but i have been thinking of things we could incorporate in our experimenting together. i was just talking to my aunt (she is a belly dancer)...she gave me the idea of wearing masks while we dance. it allows the dancer to transform...and puts a whole new dimension to the experience...we could even make our own masks...and have that process bring another level to everything. the masks remind me of certain japanese styles of performance (Niki would be probably be able to give good input on this). anyways...just trying to get ideas out there as they come. hope everyone is well

I hope this will be a forum to inspire and collaborate about non-traditional dance. I'm interested in gathering a tribe of choreographers/dancers who share a love of experimental dance. My vision is to create pieces that integrate various forms of dance. I really like tweeking the traditional...i.e dark, experimental ballet. Anyone else out there with similar vision?
